Beauty

First, check out the sermon from our church this week. It’s on one of our core values – beauty. A really good listen on how the lesser beauties around us reveal & heighten our yearning for the ultimate Beauty – Christ.

November 23, 2008: Core Values – Beauty (Kevin Cawley)

Second, we had a thoroughly encouraging visit with an old friend of Chad’s, Leeann Dull. Leeann leads art ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ in New York, and also helps with IAM (International Arts Movement). This sounds like a first class art ministry & we can’t wait to learn more. We’re hoping to attend their conference in New York at the end of February. It will be a great chance to learn & network & dream.

Third, with Thanksgiving just a few hours away, let me say we are soooo thankful for so many things:

YOU – our friends, supporters & silent stalkers 😉

Jesus Christ – He gave me peace with God. Real peace. Amazing.

A warm home, a loving spouse, food for every meal, family to spend the holiday with, an education – just to name a few. We don’t deserve all this! But we are so grateful.

We hope you have a joyful Thanksgiving!

First off let us apologize for the long absence between posts. Seems like time just gets away from us!

Core Group Update

Here is the latest from our Artist Core Group 2nd meeting…. Our second meeting included two additional couples from our church and brought our total number to 9 including Traci and I. After recapping the ideas from our first meeting including the idea of creating artist studio space, we realized that this idea was going to be a more long term goal.

Our group was very excited about the idea, but we also realized that it would be good to develop some short term ideas as well. One of those ideas utilizes the Art as Discipleship process that we have been working with over the last several months. We decided that since our church is now going through its “Core Values”, that this would be a great opportunity to study those values along with the scripture verses that coincide with the values…. and to express these values through visual art pieces that would then be displayed within the church to help people see a correlation between the Values, the Word, and the Art.

Like any new idea, we’re still workin’ out the details, so please be praying for us that there would be clear communication between the artists and that every artist would approach this project with lots of prayer. We want this project to not only succeed, but to succeed in such a way that the entire congregation of our church would see the importance of art in worship, be inspired and challenged, and be driven deeper into scripture and worship.

Robert Stackhouse at KC First Friday’s!

Other fun news, Traci and I along with a few friends from our small group attended the First Friday’s art event last weekend. As always, there was some amazing work displayed, but one gallery was particularly enjoyable as it was three floors of truly unique work from Robert Stackhouse. Below are a few pictures I snapped from my phone.
